Shop Local : Jake by the Lake

Shop Local : Jake by the Lake

Whoa this year has been a roller coaster ride! Not as many ups as downs but it feels like we’re hopefully on the way up again. One thing that has been clear to me throughout all of this is that the businesses in our community are most important! The #shoplocal mentality has never been more important in helping make sure there are still good businesses left after we are done with this Pandemic. One business who has been a community leader is Jake by the Lake-Life is Good. Cynthia Pringle and her team continue to serve Westport with unique, positive-inspiring...

Young Petty Stones at the Cove

Young Petty Stones at the Cove

Seamus Cowan, manager of The Cove Country Inn has an amazing talent for music. His history with music is storied (you should definitely ask him about it sometime), but he has found his niche at his family owned and operated business here in Westport, curating live music events and supporting local artists through the pandemic. It hasn’t been an easy year for live music. Many venues have either been shut completely, or have struggled to find a safe alternative given all the COVID-19 restrictions. It took a couple of months, but the Cove really found their legs about half way...

Lonesome Ace Stringband at the Cove

Lonesome Ace Stringband at the Cove

During the month of August I had the privilege of photographing and taking some video of the Lonesome Ace Stringband performance out on the Cove’s patio. Chris Coole on banjo, John Showman on fiddle made up 2/3rd’s of the band, but they certainly didn’t bring an incomplete set. The guys did a wonderful job mixing in some great covers with their original tunes, making for a truly magical night of food, drink and music outdoors. I’m not sure it get’s much better than that in Westport in the Summer! Here is their performance of “Pretty Boy Floyd”: There are also...

Espresso Shots Live

Espresso Shots Live

Last Wednesday, John Pringle from The Cottage Coffee House/Sugarbush Productions invited me on to his weekly live internet show “Espresso Shots Live” to talk about What’s on Westport and to share some great conversation. Once we got the technical flubs out of the way (we tested EVERYTHING beforehand, I promise!), we were good to go. John has graciously edited out the first couple of minutes so you don’t have to scroll through the crickets to get to the good stuff. John was kind enough to offer his platform to discuss all good things with What’s on Westport, how the pandemic...

What’s for Supper Tonight Westport

What’s for Supper Tonight Westport

During the early COVID-19 months, there was an initiative on the What’s on Westport Facebook page that ran under the hashtag: #whatsforsuppertonightwestport. Spearheaded by Tamara Carlson, readers of the page could post a photo or recipe (or both) of what they were making for dinner that night. It was a way to bring everyone together (virtually) to share a meal, something many had been missing while they were social and physical distancing. That ended once July came to a close because August was a perfect month to get out and (safely) shop and dine in Westport. Many, if not all...

Patios Are Open in Westport

Patios Are Open in Westport

This past weekend we saw a number of outdoor patios open in Westport. It was a great time to be out and about in the Village. It was my experience that people were being safe and considerate as the local businesses try to figure out this new style of serving people with all the restrictions and guidelines in place because of COVID-19. We must continue to do our part to keep ALL of our community (visitors and residents alike) safe. Westport is still a wonderful place to call home and an exceptional place to visit. Having the patios open again...
