Westport Market

The Westport Market is a new initiative for 2019. The idea started with Mayor Robin Jones’ March Breakfast entitled “Dream Big.” As a community, we were challenged to come up with ideas for sustainable growth and excitement.

Paul Thorp, an artist and a wood worker, had been attending various markets, shows and events since he moved here full time in July 2018. Along with his wife Tracey Phillips (the local pharmacist), it occurred to us that we could do something similar with our property in town and pitched the idea at the Breakfast. The lot has been empty for a couple years and we thought this would be a great initiative to do with the land.

As a philosophy, we are trying to create a venue in Westport to showcase our abundance of local talent.

Check the Market’s Facebook page weekly to see highlights of participating vendors. Or join us and come be part of our Vendor Community! Email us at westportmarket.on@gmail.com for details.

Everyone seems very enthusiastic and feedback from the public (and vendors) so far has been very positive. Many have provided their feedback and expertise to help us with the information we need to get it going and to make it a success for all participants.

The Market is located at 38 Concession Street – across from Lockwood Park and the Arena. The Market opens the Saturday of the May long weekend and will run Saturdays from 9am to 4pm until Labour Day weekend.
