The Black Dog Inn is a comfortable pre-confederation dog friendly B&B on the Rideau Heritage Route. Centrally located in Westport, Ontario, we are accessible by car, motorcycle, bicycle, boat, on foot from the Rideau Trail, and if you are flying in, you can request a pick up from the airport. We offer a full breakfast, quality linens, air conditioned rooms with ensuite bathrooms, satellite televisions, wifi, mini fridges and in room coffee and tea service. For people who may struggle with stairs we have a stair lift to the bedrooms.
Celebrating Canada’s sesquicentennial in 2017, renovations commenced on the pre-confederation home which was to become The Black Dog Inn. Honouring Canada’s rich history the rooms are themed with period furniture to denote major milestones in history and art. The Colonial room acknowledges the stalwart efforts of the pioneers who settled in the small villages and hamlets of Eastern Ontario. This suite is furnished in pine with antique touches. A queen bed and full bathroom provides modern comfort for guests. The Art Deco room features artwork by the celebrated artist Tamara de Lempicka and original art deco furniture. A small bathroom with shower is ensuite for your comfort. The Modern Room is a large luxurious room with a king bed and a spa bath. Guests are invited to enjoy our screened in porch during summer and dogs are welcome to play in our yard.
Continuing our journey, in the summer of 2020, our gift shop will open. Specializing in discontinued china, crystal, art glass, estate jewellery and other collectables, our guests can begin their shopping journey around the wonderful and unique shops of Westport. Renovations continue as we strive to restore this beautiful home to its former glory. Work has been completed on the parts of the house that were key to the safety and comfort of our guests. Improvements will continue on the exterior as time and weather permits.
Come and visit the real black dog Roxie and her pal Chloe, the official greeters of the Inn. Located on Spring Street across the road from the Visitor’s Centre we are walking distance to The Cove Country Inn, home of Blues On The Rideau.
At The Black Dog Inn our goal is to make your trip to Westport an experience to remember. Each morning prior to breakfast a little treat fresh from the oven is delivered to your door allowing you to enjoy it with a cup of tea or coffee as you leisurely prepare for the day. Breakfast time is as requested by you and freshly prepared as per your order. Specialties include eggs Benedict or eggs Neptune, stuffed french toast, omelettes, or gluten free, vegan or vegetarian offerings.
